Sanne Terweij

BIOGRAPHY

Creative ChemistryJade green, lush purple, burnt orange and teal; colours are everywhere in the vibrantly oxidized textures on pieces of copper and brass that are laying around in different stages of transformation. This colourful scene is what we see when we enter the studio of Sanne Terweij. With her roots in creative entrepreneurship as a decorator/artist for hospitality and film industry, she has spent years specialising in ageing and patina techniques for sets and interiors. She currently focuses on the use of metals such as brass and copper, of which the reflective surfaces shimmer and constantly change with the moving light and the position of the viewer. In exploring the oxidative properties of her materials, she sets to work with various chemical processes and interventions to create her wall sculptures in mesmerizing colour schemes. Pure and unpolished, the oxidized shapes form a contrast with their shiny and brushed counterparts, pieced together into timeless works that show her perception of the world around us.In her current body of work she is experimenting with different hues and gradients to capture the feeling of a fleeting moment and to investigate the effect a colour can have on the psyche. It’s the treasures of the material, in colour as well as in texture and reflection, that Terweij is looking for. Transition is a common thread, and her process reveals her deep-rooted love for old school craftmanship.“I feel that the little imperfections you see when something is handmade, really give each piece its owncharacter” The ever-changing process of oxidation, in combination with the hundreds of hand cut shapes that make up her works, ensure that no work is ever the same. Her wall objects have already found their ways to collectors and galleries worldwide, and she has recently received the Rising Talent Award by Maison&Objet in 2022. Her preference for unconventional materials and her often bold use of colour make for unique and recognisable statement pieces.

Rep Ringel

BIOGRAPHY

Rep Ringel, a self-made man in every way, is born and raised in the Netherlands into an artistic family. His mother, a graduated fashion designer, and his father, a poet gave him all the freedom to develop his creativity and to dive into his own artistic soul.  Obviously this had, and still has a big influence on his life and career choices.

One of Rep’s biggest passions is music; as a teenager he used to  wander around record stores looking for new, original, and exceptional music. It was therefore no surprise Rep started having a career as a deejay.

Rep, on the look-out for new challenges and opportunities to evolve his creativity, started to show an interest in graphic design and through education and internships he managed to become a successful Graphic Designer. With his own award winning agency, Ringel Design he mainly worked for clients from the fashion, beauty and cosmetic industry.

Always wanting to develop his talents further, influenced and inspired by music, fashion and design, Rep started to create art: large abstract paintings on canvas.  His approach on creating paintings is really his own. The way he applies the acrylic paint on the canvas is rather unconventional. Every paining is made to the sounds of one specific song / track. Rep listens to these music pieces repeatedly while creating the art work. Translating all the layers heard in the music onto the canvas. This unique approach makes the artworks come to life and creates a sense of depth, mystery, and rhythm. Looking at the color pallet Rep worked initially mainly with earth tones, since nature inspires him. However these days not only the element earth is a source of  inspiration, it is the other elements like water, fire and air as well. Hence the art works in blues, whites and even orange-reds. Often he adds touches of metallic, and 24k gold elements. To make his work even more unique, Rep adds a chip to the painting with special information about the art work,  including a certificate of authenticity and ownership in a special wax seal on the canvas. His paintings are named after the music piece or the musician / composer of that specific song.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Rep started taking photos of his canvasses, initially to publish in his limited edition hardcover books. However whilst photographing he found a different way of looking at his own work by zooming into details of his paintings and rediscovering the different layers all over again.  The result is a series of photos that are alienated from their origin. The details are in a way not only a fragment of the painting but also represent one specific sound from the track that is connected with the original art work. The limited edition photos are printed in two different ways and formats. The smaller sized series is called ‘Silence’ and have a glossy appearance, the second series are larger prints on a matt paper and  carry the name  ‘Silence Gold’.

Ruben Creemers

BIOGRAPHY

Ruben Creemers, 'I started my creative path at an early age. After spending my childhood in the good company of crayons, paper, paint and pencils, i started out as a muralist/graffiti artist, and began experimenting with photography, illustration, typography and graphic design. This grew out into a wild passion for graphic design, branding and creative communication. Fields in which I have been working professionally for over 20  years.

Alongside my work as a graphic designer and art director i’ve always had a strong urge to create stuff that doesn’t come from strategy, brand values and corporate guidelines. Work without compromise that comes from within myself, with no boundaries but my own.

Blurring lines between creative disciplines – both digital and analogue – and combining these into something new, has always been one of my biggest fascinations. In my latest work i’m exploring the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Paint strokes without borders, background or fixed composition. As a reflection of myself and the world around me. A quest for (creative) freedom, letting go and trusting the process.'
